About

I was born in Taunton in 1968 and grew up in the village of Holford, set amongst the backdrop of the Quantock hills. My art career started at an early age and as the youngest of a large family, I quickly learnt to entertain myself, painting, drawing and creating with anything I could get my hands on. I impressed my art teachers at school, always a willing student and very keen and imaginative. This in turn gave me a real thirst to express myself, even getting involved in amateur dramatics, but art always by far my first passion, from graphite to full colour.

My mum and dad sadly parted company when I was nine. My mother moving to Cardiff to manage a stationary shop. I resided with my father; they were dark days, as he suffered from deep depressive moods. I had to grow up very quickly, sadly he passed away suddenly just after my seventeenth birthday. This was very hard hitting, my grief lasted what seems like an eternity. I decided to rescue myself from my own decent into darkness and moved to Cardiff.

In Cardiff my mother had started her own stationary shop, after six months of moving to Cardiff we started to sell arts and crafts materials, leaving the cut throat world of stationary behind. Arts and crafts were ideal, with the right location for the colleges and universities, things went from strength to strength. At this time I considered attending the art college myself but after talking to students, artists and sales reps, I decided against it and instead opted for a valuable opportunity and education in the trade itself.

I used my holidays to incorporate trade shows such as the NAMTA shows in Chicago and Philadelphia. The seminars by Windsor & Newton on paint technology. The retail side gave me knowledge of mediums of mediums, which I demonstrated for Rexel Derwent on a few occasions. Then developed into my chosen field of acrylics.

I have found over the years a style suitable for my expression. The response from my viewers has been very positive, it gives my sometimes frustrating journey a clearer defined path. With a fully equipped studio and B spoke framing workshop, and of course gallery, I feel I can set a path and make a real contribution to the world of fine art. If this happens or not, nothing can take away the love and satisfaction I have for my chosen profession.
